MORE than 3,000 scholars gathered at the Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental dome to celebrate Valentine's Day, Thursday, February 14, honoring their parents and thanking Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano for his scholarship program for the less privileged.

Beneficiaries of the "Iskolar Ko Ni Bambi" (IKNB) from all over the province came for its 12th general assembly where several activities were lined up.

The whole day activity was filled with fun, prizes and surprises through raffle draw and other contests.

But, the day got emotional when the organizers requested the scholars to hand their parents a flower followed by a mass singing.

"This is the first time we did this by bringing their parents with them so we can honor them. Both the parents and scholars don’t know this part of the program," Emano said.

The scholars were also inspired by testimonies of success from those IKNB graduates who were already able to land a good job and have helped their respective families.

The IKNB program has already produced around 19,500 graduates since 2007 and out of the more than 3,000 scholars at present, 800 are about to graduate this year.

IKNB beneficiaries are taking four-year degree courses, technical-vocational courses, skills training and other courses in different colleges and Universities in the province and in Cagayan de Oro City without spending for their tuition and other school fees.

Emano has assured that his administration would prioritize education, even as he allocated around P22 million for his scholarship program this year.

The capitol's top official said he would continue all programs that would better the lives of the people despite the efforts of his political detractors who tried to destroy his good intentions.

"Our programs will continue despite the negative publicity and black propaganda by some of our political opponents who want to destroy this,” Emano said.

Emano is also considering initiating a homecoming activity for IKNB graduates who are already working in the different parts of the world.
