THE City Government of San Fernando through its City Agriculture and Veterinary Office (CAVO) and City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) recently launched the first ever search for cleanest and greenest village or subdivision in line with the celebration of the 18th cityhood charter anniversary or Kaganapan at the mini convention center of Heroes Hall.

CAVO Head Cristina Sangumay said that the competition is the first project that includes the villages or subdivisions of City of San Fernando in the urban gardening program of CAVO.

CENRO Administrative Officer III Jeanine David noted that the activity takes part on the campaign of sustainable solid waste management of Mayor Edwin Santiago.

“We are reaching out to the villages or subdivisions for them to become part in beautifying the environment and the campaign of City of San Fernando becoming a zero-waste city,” David said.

The competition, which is free and open to all villages or subdivisions in City of San Fernando, will run from February 11 to April 22, 2019.

The event was attended by some Home Owners Association (HOA) members from different villages or subdivisions in City of San Fernando, who were required to accomplish a registration form with the signature of their village or subdivision’s HOA president.

The deadline of the submission of the registration forms, which will be submitted to the CENRO Office, is on February 18 on a first-come, first-served basis and a limit of 50 participating villages or subdivisions, which will be given gardening tools (rakes and shovels) and seeds.

The schedule of the site visit will start on April 23.

The registered villages or subdivisions will be judged based on cleanliness, aesthetics and absence of dumpsites; institutionalization of solid waste management (household waste segregation, regular waste collection, operation of materials recycling facility (MRF)); edible garden (with variety of plants); and community involvement and sustainability.

The awarding of winners is scheduled on May 6.

The prizes are P15,000 (first place), P10,000 (second place), and P5,000 for (third place).
