A frequent message on the threads were students, faculty, former graduates and ordinary people thanking Gonzales for his effort in making the law come true.

Students are also hoping for new courses in the Liberal Arts, Legal Management, Law, Medicine, Allied Sciences, and Health-related programs in the near future.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 11169 which renamed Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University into Don Honorio Ventura State University.

Duterte early this January signed the bill after it was approved by both houses of Congress. The law also lifts the restrictions placed upon the state university through its former name.

Efforts to rename the historic state university was first introduced in 2017 by Gonzales.

Gonzales said that renaming of the university will bring about the modification of restrictive provisions of Republic Act (RA) 9832 and elevate the status of this higher education institution from a technological to a comprehensive university.

Additional courses in the liberal arts, medical and allied medical fields shall be offered in addition to those specified in Section 3 of RA 9832.
