INSTEAD of apprehending traffic violators, the Davao City Police Office DCPO (DCPO) Traffic Group went to the streets on Thursday morning, February 14, to give flowers and traffic reminders to motorists, commuters, and passersby in line with the Valentine’s Day celebration.

Chief of Motorcycle Unit Police Senior Inspector Henjie Culanag, said the program “Alay sa puso, alay sa motoristang Pilipino, kaligtasan at seguridad sa lansangan” was conducted through the cooperation of the Traffic Group and the Highway Patrol Group.

He added that aside from providing reminders on road safety and traffic regulations, the activity also aims to entertain the commuters and passersby by handing out heart-shaped cut-outs and flowers.

“We also visit some transport hub, bus, UV Express, especially in areas where students are waiting for jeep. We also assist the flow of traffic. We do not only perform the mandate but we also implement traffic rules and regulation stated in RA 4136,” he added.

The traffic personnel handed out flowers to commuters and passersby along Quirino Avenue.

Motorists who were approached by the traffic group thought that they violated traffic regulations after they were stopped but to their surprise they received heart-shaped cut outs and flowers.

Culanag added that similar future events are being planned by DCPO and other partner agencies to further implement traffic rules in the city.
