Hino named winning bidder

MANILA-based Hino Motors was declared the winning bidder in Cebu City Government’s bidding for the purchase of garbage compactor trucks worth P232.5 million.

Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) chairman Ronald Malacora said the supplier passed the post-qualification evaluation.

As early as next week, Malacora said they can award the contract to Hino Motors once Mayor Tomas Osmeña signs the purchase order (PO).

“We are already preparing the PO. Then we will review it and forward it to Mayor for signature,” Malacora said.

After the contract is awarded, Malacora said the supplier is expected to deliver the trucks within 90 to 120 days.

During the earlier bidding conducted by the BAC, Hino Motors placed the lowest bid for the purchase of compactor trucks.

The City Government plans to acquire nine six-wheeler 12-cubic-meter garbage compactor trucks worth P112.5 million.

In its official bid documents, Hino Motors offered to supply the nine trucks for P80 million.

The same firm also bid P89 million to supply 12 six-wheeler eight-cubic-meter garbage compactor trucks whose approved budget contract was P120 million.

Department of Public Services Assistant Department Head John Paul Gelasque said they expect the trucks to be delivered by April.

For two years now, the City has been sourcing out its garbage collection since the Inayawan Sanitary Landfill was closed.

Gelasque said they allocated only P201 million for the hauling of garbage this year, which only covers the period until June 30, while the supplier is yet to deliver the compactor trucks.

Earlier, Gelasque said they suggested the purchase of new compactor trucks instead of spending too much on garbage hauling fees. The DPS estimates that 700 tons of garbage is collected daily.

The City pays private service providers around P1,200 for every ton of garbage they dispose.
