Bacolod mass wedding set

THE Bacolod City Government will sponsor a mass wedding on Sunday, February 17 at the Bacolod Government Center.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia said Thursday, February 14, the ceremony will be held on February 17 instead of Valentine’s Day because February 14 was a regular day and the City has an on-going business one-stop-shop at the lobby.

“We will hold it in the weekend for the convenience of everybody,” he said.

He added there will be 200 couples to tie the knot on Sunday with their respective families and sponsors.

The mayor recalled in 2013, Bacolod held the biggest mass wedding with a total of 2,013 couples solemnized.

“I believe, we have the Philippine record of the biggest mass wedding ever where 2,013 couples solemnized with the presence of Senator Emmanuel Pacquiao and Chavit Singson as godfathers of the couples,” Leonardia said.

He said the mass wedding is an annual tradition in the city and this will be officiated by Leonardia, with other city officials and representatives of government agencies as witnesses.

Leonardia is also planning to invite some national personalities to witness the event.
