Cepalco accredits electricians

TO DETER overcharging of electricians’ fees, the Cagayan Electric Power and Light Company (Cepalco) will now be accrediting electricians effective March 1.

Lloyd Castillo, supervisor of Cepalco’s Customer and Community Relations department, said this is also to ensure correct installation of power connections.

He said for every application for electric service connection and for fast approval of applications, the owner must present a duly Cepalco-accredited electrician.

However, if the applicants have no electrician, they may choose from a list of Cepalco’s accredited associations.

“A form of undertaking between the applicant and the accredited electrician must be presented to Cepalco,” Castillo said.

He added that Cepalco will accredit electricians and will give certificates to those who wish to be accredited.

What is needed is an application form, police clearance, identification card and certification from any of the following institutions -- National Manpower and Youth Council, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority or any proof that the electrician had undergone training.

Castillo said the electricians may avail of Cepalco’s free technical seminar, examination and evaluation by its in-house engineers.

Members of the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers, he said, need not undergo technical seminar and examination but must submit pertinent requirements for accreditation.

Castillo said the power company’s new policy is to ensure efficient costumer service and to deter overcharging of other electricians.

He said Cepalco intends to provide fast metering facility installation thereby hastening electric service connection.

Additional information on this, Castillo said, is available at Cepalco’s main office in Tiano-Chavez Sts. or its Tagolaoan district office.
