NPC bets urged to work for Legarda's candidacy

LINGAYEN -- The Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) has raised the red light in the vice presidential race as it calls on its candidates all over the country to work hard for Senator Loren Legarda’s candidacy.

In the recent survey of the Social Weather Stations (SWS), Legarda came second to Senator Mar Roxas of the Liberal Party.

Legarda teamed with Nacionalista Party’s bet Senator Manny Villar.

“Ang partido ay tumatawag sa lahat ng mga nangangandito sa buong pilipinas na suportahang maigi si Senator Loren para bise presidente. Mahalaga sa amin na masuportahang mabuti ng partido si Loren at maipakita na sa lahat ng lugar sa Pilipinas kung saan ang mga incumbent ay NPC ay lalabas po siya,” said Congressman Mark Cojuangco in an interview last Monday.

Cojuangco is the son of NPC Chairman Emeritus Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco.

He remains steadfast in their party’s stand that they have done their part for the people and for the country relative to the presidential position.

With the decision of Senator Chiz Escudero not to run for president, “ang partido ay tumaya at nagkaroon kami ng kandidato para sa posisyon ng pagkapresidente. Nagawa na namin ang aming tungkulin sa taong bayan at sa partido na sumuporta sa isang presidential candidate.”

“We’ve accepted that. We’re just now waiting for the decision of the people as to who will be the next president. Handa kaming tumulong and maki-cooperate para maisagawa ang mga trabaho para tayo ay umunlad bilang isang bansa,” he added.

As to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo later becoming speaker of the House of Representatives, Cojuangco said this is possible as she has planted good relationship with a lot of member of the present Congress.

“Maari yon dahil marami siyang naitanim na kabutihan sa mga incumbent congressmen. Sakaling bumalik sila, marami siyang kaalyado,” he stated.

Will the NPC support her in the speakership? He said: “Hindi ko masabi ang pulitika at that time. But I don’t see any reason kung bakit hindi puwedeng tumulong at makipag-cooperate ang NPC.”

Cojuangco said there are more than 60 congressional candidates under NPC all over the country.

In Pangasinan, NPC’s congressional candidates are former Cibac party-list representative Kim Lokin (second), Gina de Venecia (fourth), outgoing Sison Mayor Kimi Cojuangco (fifth) and outgoing Vice Governor Marlyn Primicias-Agabas (sixth).
