UNHERALDED woodpushers will carry the torch and fill the big shoes left by Palarong Pambansa gold medalists Austin Jacob Literatus and John Ray Batucan.

This will happen when the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet chess competition unfolds at the Mati Comprehensive National High School in Mati, Davao Oriental on March 18 to 20.

With the departure of Literatus and Batucan, Jet Engay of Osmeña Elementary School and Bhing Joel Gimony of Jose Maria College (JMC) will now represent Davao City in the Davraa Meet's boys elementary chess category.

Literatus and Batucan won the Davraa and Palaro team golds last year, but both will not be around this time to defend their crown.

Literatus, the Vietnam Asean Age-Group Chess Championships gold medalist, will still see action, although the Doña Carmen Denia National High School freshman will now be competing in the secondary division. He will be joined by Robert Mendez of F. Bustamante National High School.

In the distaff side, Vietnam Asean Age-Group Chess Championships silver medal performer Rowelyn Joy Acedo of JMC and Nikki Erica Yngayo of DCCC will represent the city in the secondary event.

Hannah Joyce Amoncio of Doña Pilar Learning Center and Ella Grace Moulic of Child of God Learning Center, meanwhile, will see action in the girls elementary team. (MLSA)
