Prices of basic goods increased

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) provincial office noted increases in the prices of some basic commodities in at least 15 supermarkets and grocery stores in Cagayan de Oro.

Based on the DTI’s weekly monitoring last week, an increase of at least 65 centavos were noted in some brands of powdered filled milk, instant noodles, vinegar, patis, bath soap and brown sugar.

Two weeks ago, brown sugar was sold at P43.35 per kilo but as of February 11, it went up to P43.80 per kilo. White sugar maintained its price week-ago, which is P52.45 per kilo.

However, the DTI also noted a decrease of at least 30 centavos in the prices of some basic goods such as evaporated filled milk, canned/processed meat, canned/processed beef and soy sauce.

Some brands of double A batteries also went down by 50 centavos, from its previous price of P53.50 for a pack of four to just P53.

The DTI is conducting a weekly monitoring on the prices of some basic commodities sold in the city’s supermarkets and grocery stores to know if there is any movement on their prices.

Aside from supermarkets and grocery stores, the DTI also included the merchandises sold in at least 10 hardware stores in the city.
