PMA bans campaigning

THE Philippine Military Academy(PMA) will strictly enforce the “no campaigning” policy for alumni and adopted class members seeking for elective posts for the May 2019 midterm elections during the alumni homecoming at Fort Del Pilar Saturday.

Lieutenant Colonel Harry Ballaga, PMA public information officer, said despite of the academy having no policy on campaigning, the date is for the alumni to enjoy the presence of their specific batches and recall their stay in the country’s premier military educational institution.

“We are asking for the observance of the sanctity of the event. This is the time for the alumni to recall the hardships and positive memories they underwent during their cadetship in the academy,” Ballaga said.

Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Benjamin Madrigal Jr. in a recent turnover of command activity said the no campaign policy inside the PMA this weekend is in line with the AFP’s non-partisan stand in the elections.

Retired army chief Jaime delos Santos, PMA Alumni Association Inc. (PMAAAI) chair, said adopted class members, like in past homecoming activities, are not allowed to be part of the traditional pass and review of PMA alumni at Borromeo Field.

To shield the academy from politically related activities, inside the PMA camp, regulations set by camp officials must be followed.

“The PMA Alumni homecoming this weekend is a time for our alumni to recharge aside from remembering all the learnings that PMA has inculcated to them, aside from how the academy have been instrumental to what they have become today,” Ballaga added.
