Negrense athletes get allowances for WVRAA

THE Provincial Government of Negros Occidental turned over a total of P15,534,000 to the Negros Occidental delegates who will be participating in the upcoming Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet 2019.

The total amount represents the student-athletes’ training allowance, meal, uniform, and transportation allowances, sports supplies, among others, for the said Regional Meet.

The turnover ceremony was held at the Department of Education (DepEd) Negros Occidental Division Office in Bacolod City, Wednesday.

WVRAA Meet 2019 will be held on February 17 to 23, 2019 at Roxas City, Province of Capiz, with the theme, “Hampang nga may paghiliusa ipasanyog sa atun banwa.”

DepEd–Negros Occidental Division Sports Officer Romeo Sison said that he is thankful for the financial assistance extended by the Provincial Government to the athletes and coaches.

He also said that the Negros Occidental delegation will leave for the Regional Meet on February 15, and will be billeted at the Pres. Manuel Roxas Memorial School.

A total of 534 athletes and 187 coaches and trainers compose the delegation.

Negros Occidental Provincial Sports Coordinator Angel Verdeflor said that Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. is always supportive of the sports program of the province because we have been producing good players from Negros Occidental who are invited to join in the Philippine Team.

He said that participating in such sporting event is one way of training the athletes to be good in their respective fields and it is one way to help them improve their skills and develop their potential as well.

He also said that the governor is wishing the Negros Occidental delegation the best of luck in the annual sports competition. (PR)
