ANGELES CITY — Mayoralty Aspirant Carmelo Lazatin, Jr. told Barangay Pandan residents recently that he will work for the improvement of rural health units in the city.

The oppositionist councilor vowed to work for the health centers so that residents don't have to travel a long distance to reach the city’s only public hospital, Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center

(RLMMC), formerly known as Ospital Ning Angeles (ONA).

Speaking in front of the villagers, Lazatin said that the current rural health units of the city are in dire need of facilities, services from medical professionals, and medicines.

The councilor said he will address the issues if given a chance to serve as local chief executive.

“The issue of providing affordable and accessible health care services to citizens is one of my priorities,” Lazatin said as he highlighted his “Six-Point Agenda,” which includes health, education, solid waste management, housing, youth and sports development, and infrastructure.

Lazatin recalled during the term of his father, Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin, as Pampanga First District Representative, they provided medical assistance and free medicines to their constituents.

Lazatin said he is planning to continue what his father started with the improvement of this city’s rural health units.

Earlier, Lazatin disclosed his plan to improve the city’s health services by providing free mandatory annual physical check-up and other medical-related benefits to senior citizens.

He also stressed the establishment of a Newborn Screening Center to reduce the mortality rate among infants.

Lazatin also assured the effective implementation of Republic Act 9709, otherwise known as the “Universal Newborn Hearing Screening and Intervention Act of 2009.”
