Army rids 9 vintage bombs in La Carlota

STATE troopers disposed nine vintage bombs in Barangay Batuan, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental on Sunday, February 17.

The bombs were discovered on February 1 and 12 at Field 36, Hacienda Fe while a tractor driver was harrowing the soil at the said village.

Each bombs weighs 20 pounds and can reach a distance of 800 meters. It was said to be used during World War II.

Lieutenant Colonel Egberto Dacoscos, commanding officer of the 62nd Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, said the recovery of the unexploded ordnance will prevent any untoward incident that would endanger the community especially those who are working in the farm.

Dacoscos encouraged the public to immediately report similar incidents to authorities for proper disposition. (Christopher D. Yanson, CHMSC-Talisay intern)
