Tanod shoots man to death

A MAN was shot to death by a watchman in Barangay Oringao, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental on Saturday, February 16.

Killed was Joven Banay, 37, of the said village.

Superintendent Jonel Guadalupe, city police chief, said the victim was repacking charcoal, when suspect identified as Proceso Tiangson Jr., 58, arrived at 11:30 a.m.

Guadalupe said a heated argument then ensued between them which resulted for the victim to allegedly hit Tiangson’s hand with a bolo.

For his defense, Tiangson, armed with a homemade 12 gauge shotgun, fired it at the victim, he added.

The victim died on the spot due to three gunshot wounds.

Police recovered from the scene the suspect’s firearm, three live ammunition, and a bolo.

Tiangson fled but he was arrested in a follow-up operation at his brother’s residence, after he was identified by the victim’s brother.

Guadalupe said they are eyeing grudge as the motive since both of them were reportedly having a conflict over a land which they do not even own.

He said murder charges are being prepared against the suspect, who is detained at the city police station. (GYM)
