GMA Network’s “Sahaya” tells the inspiring story of a young Badjao woman. The new TV series is headlined by Bianca Umali and Miguel Tanfelix, together with Migo Adecer.
Following the huge success of “Kambal Karibal,” Bianca and Miguel will once again captivate the hearts of viewers with their natural on-screen chemistry. Bianca plays the lead character Sahaya, a young woman who will conquer the challenges of life as a Badjao. Miguel portrays the role of Ahmad, a simple Badjao who will fall in love with Sahaya and will strive to win her heart. Completing the love affair, Migo plays the role of Jordan, who will become Ahmad’s rival.
This is Bianca’s first title role. According to the young actress, her preparations were not easy and she is determined to give it her best.
Portraying Badjao characters, Bianca and Miguel’s roles did not come on a silver platter. The two underwent intensive diving lessons, dance workshops, learning as much as they can about the Badjao culture. Bianca shared she could hold her breath underwater for two minutes, much better than Miguel who could only hold it for about a minute.
The show brings the Badjao community to the limelight, as Bianca’s role will also show how the Badjao will fight for their rights outside their community.
“The show is not only focused on one aspect of life. It’s focused on all the aspects. And when I say all aspects, there is love, there is family, there is education. It’s all about the journey of life and how you are going to fight for the things you love and the things that you believe in,” said Bianca.
The lead stars, Bianca, Miguel and Migo, were in Cebu last Feb. 16 to treat their Cebuano fans to a Kapuso Mall Show held at Robinsons Galleria Cebu.
“Sahaya” is set to air this March.
