THE United States Agency for International Development (USAid) in partnership with the city government conducted a workshop on how to promote and improve the city’s online payment system in various social media channels.
Attended by personnel of the various departments and residents of the city, USAid taught the participants on the process of using the government’s tax billing and online payment system to futher improve the local government's promotion on encouraging Kagay-anons to use the system instead of going to the city hall to pay for their taxes.
To recall, USAid, through its E-Peso Activity, a USAid/Philippines project that supports the objectives of the US-Philippines Partnership for Growth, supported the City Government of Cagayan de Oro in developing its program to provide electronic payment options to its constituents.
The E-PESO helped conceptualize the online payment system, forged partnerships between the City Government and payment service providers, and facilitated smooth project management, implementation and collaboration during the development phase.
The E-PESO, which partnered with the Government of the Philippines and private sector to achieve a 20-fold increase in electronic payment (e-payment) usage, provided technical assistance to government agencies to expand the use of e-payments in government-to-person and person-to-government payments.
The online tax payment and billing system, which was launched in 2017, can be accessed at www.cagayandeoro.gov.ph, the city’s official website.
The system aims to provide convenience to local taxpayers and businessmen when they redeem their business permit or pay their real property tax, business tax, and other fees which includes the building fees, traffic violation and market stall rental payment.
It can also be used by taxpayers to determine their tax dues without going to the City Hall for computations.
