Biz group seeks legislative inquiry into poor water services

KALIBO, Aklan -- The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Kalibo urged the Provincial Board to conduct a legislative inquiry over the "poor water service" of the Metro Kalibo Water District (MKWD).

PCCI-Kalibo president Ramel Buncalan said businesses in the province being serviced by the MKWD are suffering from the apparent shortage of water supply.

"The PCCI is an accredited business organization of the SP (Provincial Board). We hope that the SP will look into the concerns of the businessmen in the province," he said.

A copy of a resolution is being distributed among members of the board of directors for signature. The copy will then be submitted to the Provincial Board at the Capitol.

"We are experiencing low water supply since July 2018," said Buncalan.

MKWD general manager Edmund Peralta, during a recent inquiry of the Kalibo Municipal Council, admitted they are experiencing water shortage in the province.

"The MKWD has come unprepared with around 15,000 new water connections.

Most of the new water connections were those of the housing projects who were victims of Typhoon Yolanda. We expect to fix the water shortage for around two years from now," Peralta said.

The housing projects are initiated by the National Housing Authority in the towns of New Washington and Kalibo.

The MKWD served concessionaires in the towns of Kalibo, Numancia, Balete, Banga, New Washington and Batan. (SunStar Philippines)
