MORE than 300 Camiguingnons benefited from a joint medical-dental mission by the Gotaniun family-led FDC Misamis Power Corporation (FDC Misamis) and the Provincial Government of Camiguin held at Purok Lagundi, Barangay Poblacion in Mambajao, Camiguin on February 12.

The mission’s components include: basic health consultation for children and adults; provision of basic medicines; dental check-up and tooth extraction; basic eye care services and provision of reading glasses to senior citizens; and kids’ feeding program, proper handwashing drill, proper tooth brushing drill and provision of hygiene kits.

“Salamat kaayo nga nag-anhi ang FDC Misamis sa amoang lugar,” 29-year-old mother Mary Joy Mabayo from Barangay Quipasan in Mambajao town said.

Mabayo brought her kids John Dave, 7, and Angel Jane, 4, who were suffering from cough and fever. After consultation, she got free medicines and vitamins for her kids.

“Daku gyud nga tabang kining medical-mission sa FDC Misamis og Kapitolyo sa amoang mga kabos nga halos dili makapalit ug tambal,” she said.

FDC Misamis, a subsidiary of FDC Utilities, Inc. (FDCUI), the power and utilities arm of conglomerate Filinvest Development Corporation, operates a 3x135-megawatt (MW) circulating fluidized bed coal thermal plant at Phividec Industrial Estate in Barangays Tambobong and Balacanas, Villanueva, Misamis Oriental.

The Camiguin Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Camelco), the lone power distributor in the island-province, is among the firm’s customers.

Grateful Analiza Miso, FDC Misamis community relations specialist, said, “Us being here in Camiguin for the first time and extending healthcare services to locals, is another testament that the social development programs of FDC Misamis are not just for Misamisnons but for all Mindanaoans.”

FDC Misamis’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework encompasses the four Es – Education for Empowerment, Environmental Stewardship, Economic Enhancement and Enhanced Healthcare.

Camiguin Provincial Health Officer II, Dr. Gretchen Cabalang, said their next target is “zero malnutrition” in the province.

“Hoping then that FDC Misamis could help us, especially in implementing program(s) like feeding with our day care or elementary enrollees as beneficiaries,” the Capitol doctor said.

Camiguin, a 5th class island-province and composed of five municipalities, is presently inhabited by more than 90,000 people, 18,000 of whom are school kids, based on the recent census by Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). (PR)
