Cop who survived ambush seeks to extend leave

AMBUSH survivor Police Superintendent Michael John Deloso was still a no show at the Police Regional Office Northern Mindanao (PRO 10) headquarters Tuesday, February 19.

PRO 10 spokesperson Superintendent Surki Serenas said Deloso had applied for another extension of his medical leave.

Deloso was supposed to report for duty Tuesday, when his 30-day medical leave expired. He instead filed for another extension of 15 days.

"Superintendent Deloso is supposed to report for duty but I was informed that he is applying for extension of his medical leave," Serenas said.

This is the third time that Deloso requested the regional headquarters to extend his leave.

Deloso's third application for extension has not been approved yet as the Regional Personnel and Human Resources and Development Division (RPHRDD) still has to act and process his application.

The process includes receipt of leave application, checking of available leave applicable, endorsement of immediate supervisor, recommending approval of RPHRDD chief and approval of the regional director.

"He can avail (of) all the leave accorded to government employees duly authorized by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and the law. Whatever he is entitled, will be given to him," Serenas said.

However, Serenas said he is unsure about the leave credits that Deloso is entitled to.

"Although there are basic leave every government employee is entitled to, such as: sick leave, vacation leave, emergency leave, etc., there are special leave (credits) that vary from one officer to another, like the medals received which is convertible to leave and other leave applicable. Hence, it varies," he added.

Serenas said the application for extension of Deloso's leave is again based on the physician's advice.

He also said his office has been trying several times to reach Deloso but to no avail.

"I do not know if he is communicating with our admin officer or his immediate superior. As far as our office is concerned, we have exerted efforts to contact him, but he could not be reached,"Serenas said.

Deloso survived an ambush last November 20. He filed frustrated murder charges against two anti-illegal drug police officers a month after the incident.
