P26-M aid allotted for Manapla fire victims, market rehab

THE Provincial Government of Negros Occidental has allocated a total of P26-million assistance for the victims of the market fire in Manapla, as well as for the rehabilitation of the public structure.

About P6 million will be allocated for the fire victims, while P20 million will be for the rehabilitation of the burned public market.

It was provided in the resolution approved by the Provincial Board (PB) on Monday, February 18.

The P6-million financial assistance will be funded under the 2018 trust fund of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, while the P26 million will be sourced from the grants and donations of the General Fund.

During the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) meeting on February 18, the request for assistance of the Manapla Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council for the fire victims and rehabilitation of their public market was presented.

On February 15, the Manapla public market in Barangay 2 was razed by fire, which affected 65 vendors and left a total damage of P58.08 million.

The barangay had been placed under the state of calamity through a barangay resolution because of the massive damage caused by fire.

The PDRRMC has already approved the said financial assistance for the Manapla fire victims and the rehabilitation of the public market during their regular meeting.
