REELECTIONIST San Fernando City Mayor Edwin “EdSa” Santiago said on Monday, February 18, that he is unfazed by the alleged backing of two former city mayors for mayoralty race opponent Association of Barangay Captains president Vilma Caluag.

Caluag claimed recently that she has the support of former Third District representative and mayor Oscar Rodriguez and former mayor Rey B. Aquino.

Echoing the statement of fellow Liberal Party stalwart Vice-President Leni Robredo, Santiago said that endorsement of political candidates, although it boosts one’s candidacy, does not necessarily dictate the results of the elections.

“The people are the ones who will choose. It does not necessarily mean that if you are endorsed by somebody, you will automatically win in the elections. Fernandinos are better than that. They know whom to vote (for). They know the deserving ones,” Santiago said.

Santiago said he respects the choice of Rodriguez and Aquino.

“They have the right to choose the candidate they want to support and as a candidate, I respect and will respect their decision, whatever or whoever it is,” he said.
