DEPARTMENT of Tourism (DOT)-Davao director Tanya Rabat-Tan said sustainable and responsible tourism in this region will be one of the top priorities starting this year.

In an interview last week, Rabat-Tan told reporters that sustainable and responsible tourism is the direction that the DOT-Davao wants to go to; however there are still other priorities for the region.

“Nag-reach out na ako sa media na we want them to be part of this campaign to show that dito sa Davao, conscious tayo sa environment,” she said.

Rabat-Tan, former Mati City chief of staff, was announced as the new director of DOT-Davao last January 15. She explained that being in position for only a month, her plans for the tourism industry in the region is still on progress but that sustainable and responsible tourism will surely be a top priority.

During her oath-taking in Metro Manila, she expressed her goal in advancing sustainable programs focusing on heritage or cultural, culinary, and farm tourism.

“Right now, naka-anchor lang kami sa central office na plans. We are still building roots sa ground and we want to make a good foundation muna before we can really make plans but this is a good start. The most important thing is you get all the investors and stakeholders on board our goals and programs,” she said.

“We want to forge good partnerships. If we have good partnership na, we can do anything na. Nagsabi naman sila na if whatever program we will have in the furture, they are there to support,” she added. (LHC)
