A BUSINESSMAN survived an attempt on his life while he was driving in Mandaue City past 7 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20.
Chief Insp. Mercy Villaro, the city police spokesperson, said the incident happened after John Pearlnel Dinoro, 48, brought his wife to her workplace in Mactan-Cebu International Airport in Lapu-Lapu City.
Dinoro was on his way to his house to fetch his child for school when two men on a motorcycle attacked his vehicle.
The gunman shot the window of the door on the driver’s side.
Dinoro noticed he was being targeted because the perpetrators blocked the lane where his vehicle was traveling.
He then stepped on the gas pedal and thought of seeking refuge in the nearest police station.
Dinoro sped off towards the Mandaue City Police Office in Barangay Centro, about 400 to 500 meters from the crime scene on G. Ouano corner. Plaridel Sts.
Villaro said the gunman fired four times at Dinoro’s vehicle, but the culprit failed to hit him.
A slug from a .45 pistol and two empty shells were found inside Dinoro’s vehicle.
Dinoro told the police that he had only one person in mind who might attempt to kill him.
The person, he told investigators, is his rival in the sand and gravel business in Toledo City and threatened him in 2015.
“He found out about the threat from his friend. He was told that the person who threatened him knows where he lives, where his wife works, his child’s school and his usual route,” Villaro said. (From FMD of SuperBalita Cebu, KAL)
