Cop faces probe for killing neighbor's pet dog

A POLICE officer will be facing possible charges for killing Daisy, a pet dog on Sunday, Feb. 17, in Barangay Talisay, Santander, Cebu allegedly in self-defense.

An animal rights group advocate plans to sue Police Officer 2 Richard Cavalida for violating the law that protects animals from harm.

Despite an amicable settlement with the owner, Jenelyn Rusiana, Cebu Provincial Police Office Director Manuel Abrugena said Cavalida is still not off the hook since they will conduct an investigation to determine what law the police officer violated.

“The dog has been staying in Richard’s house several times already. It was only that time that he shot (the dog)... because his reason was he was cornered at the door while the dog was barking at him. He didn’t see a wood or stone so he used his gun to shoot her. It happened in their house,” Rusiana said in Cebuano.

She said Richard already asked for forgiveness.

“We’re now okay,” she said.

Meanwhile, Island Rescue Organization (IRO) president Analyn Aysporo said they will communicate with the resident who took the picture of Daisy as part of the evidence of the complaint against Cavalida.

IRO personnel will get an affidavit from the witness who saw when Daisy was shot and from Rusiana, even if she already refused to press charges. (From AYB of SuperBalita Cebu, KAL)
