Jodie Meeks signs 10-day contract with Raptors

FREE agent Jodie Meeks agreed to sign with the Toronto Raptors for a 10-day contract.

During a workout with the team, Meeks made the Raptors look at his game and made them think how great he can help the bench in terms of shooting and scoring.

At present, the Raptors are lacking in their bench depth with guard Fred VanVleet out for several weeks due to hand surgery. The Raptors also lost former guard Delon Wright due to the trade that sent him to Memphis for Marc Gasol. Now, the Raptors are signing guard Jeremy Lin until the end of the season.

With Meeks in the line-up, it could provide the Raptors bench with their needed depth and scoring ability to help close out games.

Meeks has been a free agent since his 25-game suspension for bringing illegal substances to the locker room and using them, thus violating the NBA Anti-Drug program. Afterwards, Meeks was traded by his current team at that time, the Washington Wizards, to the Milwaukee Bucks where he served the last 19 game ban of his 25 game ban.

Meeks was acquired together with a $2.8 million salary for a future second round pick and $1.5 million dollars. For the Bucks, acquiring Meeks was allowing them to buy a pick for $1.3 million.

Meeks insisted that he never took any illegal substance and performance-enhancing drugs. Due to this, Meeks was out of the before the 2017-2018 playoffs in which the Wizards lost in the first round against the Philadelphia 76ers. (Jayvee Gulfan, USC intern)
