Truck hits man, dies

A MAN died after a 10-wheeler truck loaded with cement hit him, and also hit a van, hardware, and a house in Purok Tilapia, Barangay 3, Bacolod City Wednesday morning, February 20.

Killed was Jason Juson, 26, of Barangay Granada.

Police Officer 2 Regino Rex Eduardo, traffic investigator of Police Station 2, said the truck driven by Ronaldo Esquilla, 40, of Barangay 30 was traveling from south to north direction when he lost control of the vehicle due to a mechanical trouble.

The truck, which was off for a delivery, was tailing a van when it hit the latter, which swerved to the right.

Then it hit Juson who was driving a motorcycle on the same direction.

Juson died on the spot. It took more than an hour for rescuers to retrieve his body which got stuck under the truck.

He was wearing a helmet but due to the strong impact of the accident, he did not survive, Eduardo said.

The truck also damaged portions of the hardware and an adjacent house owned by Rodolfo Ledesma. No injuries were reported.

Eduardo said the accident resulted to a traffic congestion for more than an hour after roads from Jalandoon to San Juan Streets were temporary closed for clearing.

Meanwhile, Esquilla who is under police custody, apologized to the family of the victim.

He said he actually checked his brakes before getting into the vehicle but unfortunately, such accident happened.

Eduardo said the victim’s family and representatives from the company of the truck driver met at the police station on Wednesday for an initial settlement. (GYM)
