‘Otso Diretso’ senatorial bets to arrive in Bacolod on Feb. 22

SENATORIAL candidates belonging to opposition’s slate Otso Diretso will be arriving for their campaign sorties in Bacolod City on Friday, February 22.

Former Quezon Fourth District Representative Lorenzo “Erin” Tañada III, who is part of the senatorial lineup, said that their activities in the city will include a courtesy visit to Governor Alfredo Marañon at the Provincial Capitol.

Tañada said they also would like to meet with the members of the urban poor and fisherfolk group in Barangay Banago as well as local business sector to discuss their concerns.

The senatorial bets of the Liberal Party is also visiting the Bacolod Central Marketing for another meeting with the vendors there.

He said that former Senator Mar Roxas, who has roots in Negros Occidental, cannot come with them in their sorties here as the latter is still out of the country.

But he (Roxas) will have a representative, Tañada added.

Incumbent Senator Paulo Benigno “Bam” Aquino is also expected to arrive with the group. The senator is pushing for education and employment for all.

The senatorial lineup of ‘Otso Diretso’ also includes Samira Ali Gutoc-Tomawis, a Filipino civic leader, journalist, environment, and women's rights advocate, and legislator who has served as member of the Regional Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Gutoc-Tomawis is pushing for justice and lasting peace in the country.

Magdalo party-list Representative Gary Alejano, a former marine, is bannering security of the Filipino people and the country.

Lawyer Jose Manuel “Chel” Diokno, who chairs the Free Legal Assistance Group, is advocating for justice.

Former law professor and Solicitor General Florin Hilbay, who grew up in Tondo, would push for services to uplift the lives of the poor, while election lawyer Romeo Macalintal would champion the rights of the senior citizens.

Roxas, meanwhile, would focus on improving the economy, while Tañada would champion the rights of workers, farmers, and fishermen. (TDE)
