THE overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Iloilo and their families underwent training on how to manage their income and finances at Casa Real de Iloilo on Thursday, February 21.
It was spearheaded by the Public Employment Service Office (Peso) in partnership with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, non-government organization Atikha, and the United Nations Women Fund for Gender Equality.
Attended by around 100 OFWs and their families from the towns of Cabatuan, Maasin, Tigbauan, Pototan, Oton, Leganes, Tubungan, Pavia, Miagao, Passi City, and Dueñas.
These are the towns with organized OFW groups. There were also guest participants from Iloilo City and Guimaras Province.
Peso Labor and Employment Officer Jayrel Javier Encontro said the seminar aims at teaching the participants the concept of saving and investing.
“We teach them on where to invest, where to put their savings, how to do budgeting, and how to appreciate migration realities like the costs and gains,” Encontro said.
They were also taught on how to address family issues and how to cope with being away from their family.
The training was launched in 2016 and Peso plans to hold it quarterly. It is also part of the Pinoy Worldwide Initiative for Investment Saving and Entrepreneurship program of Atikha. (PR)
