2 Abu Sayyafs killed, 2 hurt in clash

TWO members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) were killed, while two others were wounded in a firefight in the province of Sulu, officials said Thursday, February 21.

Brigadier General Divino Rey Pabayo, Joint Task Force Sulu commander, said the firefight between the bandits and government forces occurred around 11 a.m. Thursday in Sitio Tubig Amu in the village of Tanum, Patikul, Sulu.

Pabayo said the troops from the Army’s 41st Infantry Battalion were conducting focused military operation when they chanced upon a group of Abu Sayyaf bandits, who suffered two deaths and two wounded based on the information they received from residents in the area.

He said no one among the troops involved in the firefight were either killed or wounded.

He said the Abu Sayyaf bandits fled to Luba Hill, which was pounded with 105-milimeter (mm) howitzers and 81-mm mortar by the troops. (SunStar Philippines)
