Sungduan: iKalingas in Hong Kong

CHEERS and laughter echoed in the air at Morethon Terrace, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong as OFWs from Kalinga gathered together for their annual Sports Festival held lately.

Organized by the Kalinga Province Workers Association (Kapwa) the three-day activity showed the strong unity and great camaraderie among the iKalingas (people of Kalinga Province).

The group’s president Pilarda Apatas said the Sports Festival is an endeavor they always look forward to as it is one way of overcoming homesickness and way to hurdle the challenges of being far from their family.

Besides, being actively involved in the activities such as the competitions in cheering, volleyball games, and scrabble help relieve their stress from work.

The festival also showcased the playing of gongs with dance and music featuring their favorite indigenous songs.

The event was also supported by the presidents and officials of the different Cordilleran organizations in Hong Kong who also acted as judges in the sports competitions.

Guest and cheering competition judge Jackson Wagsayen from Cordillera Mens Club Hong Kong lauded such activity of the organization which makes every feel a sense of belongingness and love of family away from home.

It is good to belong to a group that makes you feel at home. Kapwa’s Sports Festival should continue and be supported as an annual activity.
