ABOUT 97 illegal campaign posters were removed in Cagayan de Oro by the City Commission on Elections (Comelec) for violating poster rules.

City Comelec officer Ramil Acol said the 97 tarpaulins were either oversized or placed outside a non-campaign poster area.

Acol said the tarpaulins were found along the national highway from Barangays Iponan to Bulua.

Most of them, he said, were seen in Barangay Gusa particluarly in Galaxy area.

The tarpaulins belong to party-lists and senatorial candidates.

Posters must not be bigger than 2x3 feet or 3x2 feet and they must be situated in common poster areas determined by Comelec officials in each locality.

For areas of posting, political parties and party-list groups can post their campaign materials in a maximum of 10 spots in public places such as plaza, markets and barangay centers.

The City Comelec has sent out notices to political parties and candidates, advising them to take down their campaign materials which have been violating these rules.
