DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has remained mum on speculations that she would seek the presidency in 2022.

Instead, she said she will neither say yes or no for now but she will think about it after the 2019 election.

The Presidential daughter recalled what happened in 2013 where she announced that she will no longer run for mayor but it turned out that in 2016, she filed her certificate of candidacy and won.

“Very insistent ang mga tao for me to answer kung unsa akong (if what are my) plans so I said, the best time to decide kung kanus-a ka mudagan or unsa imong daganan for the 2022 election is 2021 kay October 2021 kung automated, mag filing naman ta sa atong candidacy (the best time to decide when to run and what to run for 2022 Elecion is 2021 because the filing of candidacy will be on October),” Duterte-Carpio said.

The mayor added, “So if I say yes and if I say no it will swing both ways and I will eat my words. Dili ko gusto mahitabo ng ing-ana (I don’t want that to happen).”

Duterte-Carpio has just returned to Davao City after taking a leave to campaign for the senatorial bets of her regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP).

“Wala man jud koy plans for a national position ever since. Katong 2012, there was an opportunity, although underage ko at that time wala to nisulod sa akong huna-huna (I never had plans for a national position. There was an opportunity in 2012 but it never came to my mind)," she said.

Duterte-Carpio said there was an opportunity to run for a higher post after she was urged to run for senator. However, she did not entertain the idea.

Her focus for now is to continue developing Davao City and bring positive change. She is also running again as mayor because there are still big projects she wants to complete.

“Kung ako ang pangutan-on, akong plano lang jud is to do three terms humanon tanan dagko nga projects (My plans are to finish my three terms and complete all the big projects),” Duterte-Carpio said.

Running for presidency is currently not in her mind. They will concentrate on getting through the 2019 midterm election, hoping that the senators she is endorsing will win.

Duterte-Carpio said the best time to think about 2022 election is after the May elections.

“Maybe didto siguro huna-hunaon kung unsa ang mga factors na iconsider kung mudagan ka or dili (This may be the time consider all factors and see if I will run or not for presidency),” she said.
