Tom to sign contract for CCMC phase 2 construction

CONSTRUCTION work for phase 2 of the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) is expected to start before the month ends when Mayor Tomas Osmeña signs and awards the notice to proceed to the contractor.

With this development, Councilor Mary Ann de los Santos said with the contractors “best efforts,” the first three floors of the new hospital may be operational by May, two months late than the previous target.

De los Santos said the mayor is set to sign the contract on Friday, Feb. 21.

“Contract will be signed by mayor tomorrow (Friday) once he arrives from Manila,” de los Santos told SunStar Cebu.

De los Santos, who is the deputy mayor for health, said that as long as there is a notice to proceed signed by the mayor, the contractor can immediately start the work.

On Tuesday, Feb. 11, the City Council authorized Osmeña to sign the contract with C.E. Padilla Construction Inc., the winning bidder for phase 2 and the same contractor that undertook phase 1 of the project.

The City has set aside P283 million for the construction of phase 2 of CCMC.

The phase 2 will comprise of all the utilities, which will include plumbing, electrical, fire protection, mechanical, communication and the structural finishes.

Once work will be completed, the City plans to start using the first three floors of the building.

They will be used for the emergency room and out-patient department, among others.

Earlier, the City targeted to make the first three floors of the new CCMC operational by March but it was delayed due to government processes.

Instead of negotiated bidding, the City opted to have phase 2 of the CCMC project through a public bidding where C.E. Padilla Construction Inc. was declared as winning bidder. (RVC)
