LEADING homegrown developer UrbanEast Developments Inc. recently allayed rumors and misinformation that its first major commercial development, the Town Plaza at Monteritz, will be put on hold because it will be affected by the proposed Mindanao Railway Project Tagum-Digos-Davao by the national government (MRP-TDD).

Town Plaza project manager Engr. Ernesto Estrella, Jr. told SunStar Davao in an interview that the project will not be affected by MRP-TDD, which was confirmed during a joint committee hearing attended by Department of Transportation (DOTr) officials, Davao City councilors, and developers at the Sangguniang Panlungsod - Davao on January 9, 2019.

No less than the DOTr MRP-TDD project manager representative, Atty. Diosdado Silva, clarified that the Town Plaza would not be affected based on final plans developed by the DOTr together with the MRP-TDD’s consultant, Ove Arup & Partners Hong Kong Limited. Better yet for the development’s commercial viability, it was presented that the proposed main railway train station of Davao City segment of the MRP–TDD would be a mere 600 meters away from the proposed development, significantly boosting The Town Plaza’s accessibility and commercial viability.

Estrella added that they already secured building permits from the City Engineers Office for the two phases of the development. The project officially broke ground last June 11, 2018 and has secured several local and Manila-based tenants even prior to the project’s official groundbreaking.

“We are now in the bidding process, after which we will start the project’s full blast construction,” he said.

The Town Plaza at Monteritz is a one hectare master-planned premium commercial development designed by Visionarch, one of the Philippines’ top architectural firms. It is eyed to be Davao’s newest major landmark boasting a diverse tenant mix, a distinctly European design aesthetic, and a functioning clock tower. Also offering BPO/ office spaces currently undergoing PEZA accreditation application, the project is 15 minutes away from the Davao City International Airport and located in one of Davao’s fastest growing districts along C.P. Garcia National Highway, at cor. Ma-a and Magtu-od roads.
