12 fire incidents in less than 5 days

WAILING sirens were nonstop during the past few days as the Bureau of Fire Protection in Davao region (BFP 11) responded to a total of 12 fire incidents that hit different areas in the city since Monday, February 18.

Senior Fire Officer (SFO) 2 Ramil Gillado, BFP 11 chief of intelligence and investigation section, said there were five residential areas that were hit by fire, two grass fires, a bamboo fire, a school fire and one caused by an acetylene tank.

Based on their record, an estimated P2.123 million worth of properties were damaged by the fire. The estimate does not include yet the damage wrought by another fire Friday.

On February 20, a massive fire hit a coastal neighborhood in Purok 4, Barangay 23-C, Isla Verde, Davao City. It engulfed almost 300 houses, leaving hundreds homeless who sought temporary shelter at the Miniforest Covered Court of the barangay.

A senior citizen with special needs died inside their house when fire broke out on Toyota Street, Barangay Centro, Agdao. The victim was identified as Adela Abad, 61.

On Friday, February 22, twin fire incidents erupted in Barangay Toril and Barangay Bunawan.
