Two village chiefs nabbed for unlicensed firearms

TWO village chiefs in Cebu City and two others were caught by the City Mobile Force Company (CMFC) personnel on Friday, Feb. 22.

Lusaran Barangay Captain Agustin Partulan and Calamba Barangay Captain Victor “Jojo” Quijano yielded unlicensed firearms during the implementation of search warrants issued by a court.

Partulan is reportedly an ally of Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK), the group headed by Mayor Tomas Osmeña.

Calamba Councilor Ramsy Mercado and barangay tanod Anthony Gingoyon were also arrested.

Quijano denied owning the firearms found by CMFC personnel underneath his bed inside his house.

He admitted to owning only one firearm, saying he received the license early this week.

Cebu City Police Office Royina Garma urged barangay captains to surrender their unlicensed firearms to the police stations near their respective residences.

Garma said they have intensified the campaign against loose firearms as the midterm elections draw closer. (from AYB of Superbalita Cebu, KAL)
