AFTER the highly-successful 1st Kuya Kap inter-school chessfest, the newly-opened City Mall in Barangay Iponan will hold Saturday, February 23 the first edition in 2019 of the Parents Chess Club Rapid Chess Tournament in Cagayan de Oro.
With two categories in elementary (Grades 1-6) and high school (Grades 7 -12), the day-long rapid event (with time control of 20 minutes plus 5 seconds increment) offers more than P10,000 in total cash prizes plus medals to the lucky winners.
“The good news is that from P1,300 nga madawat sa champion, nagdugang atong chess patron in National Master Roly Tan og P1,000. So, for the two bracket champions ilang madawat P2,300 na matag usa,” arbiter Lorenzo “Jun” Cuizon told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.
The second, third, fourth and fifth placers will receive P800, P600, P400 and P300 each with the rest of the top-10 finishers out to settle for P200 apiece.
“Amo lang ipahibalo nga strictly no wearing of sando and slippers lang for the participants para sab presentable atong tournament,” added tournament director Glenn Escarda Sr., who will be assisted by fellow parents Ruel Canino, Emmanuel Carrasco and Joel Hoy in running the show.
