MANILA Electric Company (Meralco), one of the biggest electric power distribution companies in the Philippines, has presented their newest electric vehicle units in Cagayan de Oro City.

The proposed electric vehicle units or eSakay project, according to Meralco, aims to provide Kagay-anons with a safer and greener mode of transportation, an affordable and efficient public transportation system and alleviate the cases of vehicular accidents in Cagayan de Oro City.

The project is also to give the public utility jeepney drivers an option to have more sustainable and secured job opportunity.

“The project actually brings 3Ks to the community, namely: Kita, Kabuhayan, and Kalusugan, because through these electronic vehicles, drivers are compensated with salaries and complete benefits, operators would have a higher chance of gaining profit, and commuters would experience less pollution which is detrimental to our health,” Raymond Ravelo, president and CEO of eSakay Inc., said.

The eSakay Inc. is Meralco’s new subsidiary that will operate a network of charging stations for electric vehicles.

It was formed to engage in the business of owning, maintaining, and operating transport service networks of charging stations, batteries and vehicles utilizing electric energy.

The electronic vehicles will be beep card operated, spacious and comfortable, have free WiFi, GPS, and free charging ports.

The project is an initiative of Meralco in support to the government’s campaign for PUV Modernization Program.
