ACTION starts today in the Davao City Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) Meet 2019 at the University of Mindanao (UM) gym in Matina.

Prisaa Davao executive director Joaquin Sarabia said, “We will start the games in volleyball and basketball earlier than the rest of the events because it has more entries.”

Other events like athletics, swimming, chess, dancesports, karatedo, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, weightlifting, billiards, beach volleyball, sepak takaw, softball and football will be held on March 2 and 3.

Top qualifiers will advance to the Prisaa Regional Meet 2019 slated April 12 to 14 in Tagum City that will serve as qualifying for the 63rd National Prisaa Games that Davao City will host on May 19 to 24.

Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William Ramirez, in a recent interview with SunStar Davao, said their partnership with the National Prisaa aims to fulfill the sports agency’s mandate to strengthen grassroots sports.

“National Prisaa is an important partner of PSC. It’s been organized for a long time. We feel that tertiary sports must be given attention by government and we contributed something in partnership with them,” Ramirez said.

He added that Prisaa and PSC played an important role in developing tertiary sports in the country.

He also invited tertiary institutions in the country “to join and celebrate humanity, friendship, excellence and sports for peace in Davao City” during the Games.

Prisaa Davao executive secretary Lourdes Mission, for her part, said the High School division already conducted the Prisaa city elimination during the Davao City Athletic Association (Dcaa) Meet where top performers will next compete in the regional meet.

Thus, all games today and tomorrow as well as next weekend will be featuring events in the collegiate division.

SunStar Davao is official media partner of the 63rd National Prisaa Games being supported by PSC and the city government of Davao with major sponsors 8990 Holdings, Anflocor, Santos Land and SkyCable. Minor sponsors include Alu Hotel, GH Office Depot, Davao Doctors College, Aeon Towers and Amani Residences. (MLSA)
