OVER 20 million users of GCash Fund Transfer in the country were able to transfer fund to more than 30 Philippine banks for free.

GCash vice president and Corporate Communications Group head Ney Villasenor said during GCash press conference Friday, February 22, that as of February this year, they have 20 million users already from 16 million in 2018.

Villasenor added that the figure represents the core-users of the service who are more adapted to technology such as the millennials. He, however, said that they are also aiming to reach the underserved and even the non-smartphone users in rural areas.

“We have been doing bonus efforts to make the service available even to non-smartphone users. We really have to democratize the service,” he said, adding that the campaign they will launch in March this year will further strengthen the goal to reach the underserved areas, especially in Visayas and Mindanao.

Meanwhile, GCash vice president for Financial Institutions Joseph Lim discussed the new mobile money service they offer without charges.

“GCash is now fully integrated to the banks in the Philippines. You can use the funds in your GCash account and you can now deposit it to any of these 37 banks,” he said.

Lim added that with the service, fund transfers which usually are time-consuming, could now be done in the GCash App that is open for all networks such as Globe, Smart, Sun, Talk n’ Text or TM.

Fund transfers are part of the Philippine financial ecosystem, widely-used for sending money for personal purposes such as family needs, bills payments, or even paying online sellers for products ordered on social media platforms.

Villasenor said that their online campaigns will continue to organize more engagements in the Visayas and Mindanao to erase the idea that GCash is Manila-centric.

“The drive for financial inclusion should go all over the country, not just Manila, not just NCR,” he said.
