WBO orders purse bid for Nietes vs. Palicte rematch

THE World Boxing Organization (WBO) has ordered the Donnie Nietes vs. Aston Palicte rematch to go to a purse bid. After both ALA Promotions and Roy Jones Jr. Promotions failed to reach an agreement on the mandatory rematch, the WBO has decided to give the promotional rights to the highest bidder in a purse bid on Feb. 28 at the organization’s headquarters in Puerto Rico.

The minimum bid is $100,000 with Nietes getting a 75 to 25 split if the fight takes place in the Philippines and an 80 to 20 split if the fight will be held anywhere else in the world according to a report by Boxingscene.com.

ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer has been looking at other options for Nietes, the WBO super flyweight champion. Aside from a rematch with Palicte. Aldeguer was looking at a unification bout with the winner of the Srisaket Sor Rungvisai vs. Juan Francisco Estrada World Boxing Council super flyweight fight or against World Boxing Association super flyweight king Khalid Yafai.
