TRULY Rich Club member and financial literacy advocate Edna Villegas-Cheng said majority of the Dabawenyos still do not have idea how important is the financial literacy in one’s development.

During the Kapehan media forum Monday, February 25, at the SM City, she said people do not realize how important it is to be financially literate in order to be able to manage finances properly.

“Whenever I do talks, maraming walang may alam on how to manage their money. [Financial literacy] is very important kasi kung hindi ka marunong mag-manage ng pera mo, then how will you save? Where will you get your emergency money? How will you be able to do other advocacies?” Villegas-Cheng said.

“Kailangan talagang umpisahan na natin turuan ang ating mga kababayan to be financial literate,” she added.

She said that one example of proper handling of finances is following the 10-20-70 principle or the abundance formula of renowned financial mentor Bo Sanchez, which suggests 10 percent of total income to be allotted for charity works or the church, 20 percent for savings or investments, and 70 percent for daily expenses.

In line with the advocacy to improve financial literacy in Davao City, the Truly Rich Club will hold a seminar on financial literacy, digital marketing, and business start-ups, among others will be discussed.

The Trailblazing Success: Ignite your corporate career, business and influence seminar with invited speakers who are experts on their different field such as Rampver Financials President and CEO Rex Medoza, stock market trader bad entrepreneur Ray Edward Graspil, and virtual professional and online brand marketer Carl Marx Conde will be held at the Pinnacle Hotel and Suites on March 16.

Villegas-Cheng said they are targeting over a hundred participants who may be students, working individuals, housewives or retired individuals. (LHC)
