SINCE the start of election campaign, the Police Regional Office (PRO) has not recorded a single election-related violence here in Davao Region.

“Wala tayong na record na election-related violent incident or but ‘yong ating mga security personnel ay tuloy-tuloy ang kanilang implementation ng mga prevention plans nila and checkpoint natin is tuloy-tuloy din,” PRO-Davao director Marcelo Morales said Monday, February 25.

He added that the number of election watch list areas (Ewas) remains. They have not added more barangays in their list of areas of concern.

“But gaya ng nasabi ko noong una, weekly ang aming assessment don sa mga Ewas, maaring madagdagan or even mabawasan,” Morales said.

They implemented the reshuffling of personnel who are related to a running political candidate.

Earlier, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) bared that there are 349 local and national government officials who are allegedly providing support to the New People’s Army (NPA) by giving in to their extortion activities or permit-to-campaign fees.

Based on the report, there are 11 governors, five vice governors, 10 provincial board members, 55 mayors, 21 vice mayors, 41 councilors, 126 village captains, 50 village councilors, and eight other village officials.

Meanwhile, Morales said that they have yet to acquire a copy of the list to determine whom of those local politicians in Davao region have been providing support to the NPA.

“We will recommend for the suspension or cancellation of the LTOPF (License To Own and Possess Firearms) nila kung meron man dahil wala silang karapatan, tatanghalan sila ng privilege to carry firearms dahil maari silang maging national security risk sila,” Morales said.

He also said that if there are indeed local politicians in the list, they will check the extent of their support to the NPA rebels for appropriate action.

“Dito [Davao region] walang report na mga politicians na nakaka-receive ng mga permit to campaign and permit to win fee. Dito sa atin halos wala naman tayong problema sa political rivalry except sa isang district sa Davao del Norte,” Morales added.
