Sayyaf bandit killed, militiaman hurt in clash

AN ABU Sayyaf bandit was killed and a militiaman was wounded in a firefight in Basilan on Monday, February 25.

Colonel Fernando Reyeg, Joint Task Force Basilan commander, said the clash took place around 5:30 p.m. Monday at Sampinit complex in Masula, Isabela City, the capital of Basilan province.

Reyeg said the troops were conducting security operation in response to the reported presence of the Abu Sayyaf bandits when they came upon the suspected bandits. A gunfight ensued and lasted for about 15 minutes.

Reyeg, who is also the Army’s 104th Infantry Brigade commander, said the firefight resulted in the death of an Abu Sayyaf bandit and injured a militiaman.
