Baguio Convention Center rehabilitation halted

BAGUIO City Mayor Mauricio Domogan confirmed work at the Baguio Convention Center (BCC) is temporarily halted pending the arrival of agreed upon materials.

Domogan said the dialog between the city officials and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has been fruitful and as soon as materials arrive for the BCC, “What is important here is the dialog.”

The chief executive also said the city has accepted that the mezzanine of the BCC cannot be completed as there are no original plans to support its construction as well as the component is not included in the scope of work of the rehabilitation plan.

Domogan said the construction of the mezzanine would require retrofitting and is not part of the approved and plans of the DPWH.

He explained the shipment of wood for the flooring of the BCC is being awaited as the material has been agreed to be the best for the rehabilitation, scrapping the original carpeting envisioned and the tile idea on the onset, adding the wood flooring would be best for the sound enhancement of the BCC.

Last month, DPWH regional director, Tiburcio Canlas, has called for a meeting with the city officials after the city council sent a letter to Highway Secretary Mark Villar, raising concerns surrounding the BCC rehabilitation.

The city implored to Villar to look into the BCC so that a safe and world class Baguio Convention Center could be achieved and bemoaned approved and bided out plans are not being implemented by the regional DPWH.
