THE journey of young Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III (or well-known as Hiccup) with his Night Fury dragon Toothless has come to an end with a finale that left some of its viewers feeling emotional.

Several posts online, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc., tell the feelings of those who already watched the satisfying yet bittersweet conclusion of the How to Train Your Dragon (HTTYD) Trilogy.

For those who have been fans since the first movie, seeing the “aww” inspiring relationship between Hiccup and Toothless reach its close made them tear up.

The first film of HTTYD showed how a boy, a son of a chief that was considered an outcast in the Viking society because of his reluctance in killing a dragon, found his destiny (and best friend) in the existence of one of the most mysterious and fearsome species of dragons or as the characters in the show calls him: the unholy offspring of lightning and death itself.

The second film presented the life of a grown Hiccup who had his life getting more complicated as he found out that his mother was alive and later on has to learn how to lead his people after losing his father.

The last of the trilogy has its focus on Toothless, as he finally found his mate, a Light Fury, and his independence. Thus, Hiccup has to learn how to let go and to stop being too dependent on his best friend.

However, there are some elements that leave some of the fans thinking, such as the new villain Grimmel and his love of the hunt and his hate on Night Furys. Is the thrill of the hunt really the reason why he killed all the Night Furys?

Admittedly though, as someone who watched all three movies and the series, Grimmel is just like Hiccup’s past enemies who wanted to either control dragons to form a dragon army or to kill all dragons.

Unlike Dragon Bludvist, the second movie’s cruel and twisted villain who wanted to conquer the world with his enormous army of dragons and humans, and Viggo Grimborn, the once leader of the dragon hunters who wanted to wipe out all dragons for profit, Grimmel showed a smarter and nimble antagonist in the HTTYD franchise.

He proved himself a threat to Hiccup and the people and dragons of Berk when he was able to perform a sneak attack that greatly damaged the village. Thus, prompting Hiccup to look for the Hidden World.

Despite of the tear and sniffle-inducing goodbye scene between Hiccup and Toothless, fans were appeased by the appearance of Hiccup, Astrid and their kids meeting with Toothless, who, despite not seeing each other for years, still remembers his brave and kindhearted rider.

As fans bade farewell to Hiccup and Toothless, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World has set a Philippine box office record of P91.5 million in a five-day opening weekend, beating the franchise’s previous highest opening in 2014’s How to Train Your Dragon 2 of P85 million.
