Tell it to SunStar: Sinas, a disgrace to democracy

POLICE Regional Office (PRO) 7 Director Debold Sinas is a disgrace to democracy for disrupting the protest rally of the left-leaning individuals by playing the theme song of his favorite Voltes V last Feb. 25.

This police official, who failed to solve several killings in Cebu and other parts of Central Visayas, had the guts to violate the Constitution, which allows free speech.

The loud music irked the militants. A heated confrontation between them and the police was captured by journalists covering the event.

Sinas on the following day, Feb. 26, told the reporters that he will be filing charges against some members of the militants who damaged parts of the gate of PRO 7 headquarters in Cebu City.

The reports did not explain why Sinas allowed the Voltes V song to be played. Journalists covering the police beat should be ashamed of themselves if they did not ask the police official about it.

He should be looking at himself. He is like a bully who seeks protection from his parents if the person he bullies fights back.

Voltes V, a popular anime series during the Marcos iron-fist regime in the 1970s, is somewhat a symbol against tyranny and terror.

Disrespecting a person’s right to express his views by playing the anime’s theme song is somewhat tyrannical in nature and Sinas has a tyrant’s attitude.—ERWIN ROMMEL EUGENIO
