No contraband found in Oro jail

STRINGENT security inspections in Cagayan de Oro City Jail may have contributed to the negative results of the greyhound operations against illegal drugs and contraband Tuesday, February 26.

Around 50 jail officers assigned at the city jail male dormitory and agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Northern Mindanao (PDEA-10) and its K9 units rummaged around the three buildings of the male dormitory.

The operation was in line with the nationwide "Oplan Linis Piitan" campaign of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) which is meant to flush out contraband and illicit drugs from jail facilities.

Despite yielding negative results, several nuisance and insignificant items were however found.

Unauthorized items like ballpens, spoons, matches, woods, nails, wires, playing cards and pirated discs were seized, which jail officials considered minor and insignificant contraband.

Jail warden Superintendent Erwin Kenny Ronquillo said this is yet again a positive development that can be attributed to the strict implementation of security checks and monitoring of inmates including rigorous search on visitors as well.

"More than anything, this is to check if there is still presence of illegal activities inside the jail," Ronquillo said.

The city jail's male dormitory has 1,531 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) and has been certified a "Drug Free Facility" since last October by the Inter-agency Oversight Committee led by the PDEA-Northern Mindanao.
