Cabacungan residents gain from tourism boost

RESIDENTS of Barangay Cabacungan in La Castellana town are provided with additional livelihood opportunities from the efforts to promote and expose the tourism potential of the barangay to visitors and tourists.

Barangay Captain Joebert Regalado, at the sidelines of the 2nd Kasadyahan Festival on Wednesday, February 27, said their tourism are even being exposed through the annual festivity.

“Through the festival, we can attract local tourists and foreigners to visit our spring waters here like the Baji-Baji Falls, Mambangon, Tikoy-Tikoy, and Matuod,” Regalado said.

“If visitors would go to these spring waters, residents will be able to sell our own products and gain income from it,” he said.

Regalado also said that the nice view of Mt. Kanlaon adds attraction to visitors who want to see and appreciate the beauty of the famous volcano in Negros Island.

“We can also promote the rice production and coffee plantation here,” he added.

During the festival, five out of 13 villages joined the festival in honor of their patron Saint Nuestra Señora Salvacion.

These participants were Tribus Cada, Fabricanus, Elementarya Balucanag, Masulognon, and Bacung.

We are celebrating all the blessings which the barangay, have received through merrymaking and fun.

Cabacungan is the second most populated village in the town with 9,000 residents.

For her part, Mayor Rhumyla Manguilimutan said it is the dream of the local government for each village to have a festivity believing that through festivals and dances, people are having fun and it attracts positivity.

Manguilimutan said Cabacungan is the second most progressive village in the town next to Barangay Robles.

The local government provided P59,000 financial assistance to the village to aid their expenses for the festivity.

“The local government has been banking on tourism as a major driver of economic development in the town,” she added.
